When handling large PDF documents like an academic or financial report project, page numbering doesn’t normally start from the first page. The first three or four pages consisting of acknowledgments and declarations are numbered using a different style or may not be numbered. This means you can start page numbering on page 3 or more. While this statement looks simple, you require a proper tool to run this task without errors. Fortunately, this article explores an example of how to start page number on page 3.
Wondershare PDFelement - PDF Editor is a powerful all-in-one PDF solution tool leveraged by plenty of people and organizations across the globe. The program is feature-rich, easy to use, affordable, fast, and compatible with several popular devices. With PDFelement, you can print, convert, edit, create, annotate, perform OCR, or share PDF files with ease.
If you have downloaded and successfully installed PDFelement, simply tap the icon to launch it. Now go to the bottom left of this primary window and click the “Open files” button. This will lead you to the file explorer window where you are supposed to choose the PDF file you want to start page number on page 3. After choosing the file, click the “Open” button to upload the file to PDFelement’s interface. You can also use the drag and drop method toad your PDF file to PDFelement.
When the PDF file you just uploaded loads on PDFelement, navigate to the toolbar and click the “Page” tab. This will display for you several PDF organize options.
From the PDF organize options above, click the “Page Labels” button. Now, you should see the “Page Labels” dialogue box displayed in the background. Here, you are supposed to customize your page labels/numbering. Under the “Page Range” section of this dialogue box, click the “Selected Pages” icon. This way, the program will apply page numbering to your selected pages beginning from where you choose to start.
Once you are done choosing the pages you want to apply the page numbering, go to the “Page Numbering” section. In this section, you are given two options to number your pages. Click the “Begin new section” and ignore the other option. Within the “Style” field, provide your desired page numbering style. Use commas to separate the numbers. E.g., 1, 2, 3, or I, II, III, and so forth. You can also add a prefix to your numbering within the prefix field. However, it is not mandatory. Now that you want to start page numbering on page 3 enter the number 3 in the “Start” field. Click “Apply” to confirm your selections and allow the program to add page numbers starting from page 3.
When the page numbers starting from page 3 are added to your PDF file, the remaining bit is to save these changes that you have made to your file. Just go to the top left of this window and click the “Save” icon. Alternatively, you can go to "File" > "Save/Save As" then save your file.
