Mr. Mart Robs
Photo Labs Int
543 Photo Blvd
Cannon, MA, 65789
(555)234-6590

Dear Mr. Robs,

As a photographer for the last 10 years with widespread photography knowledge in diverse categories and photography technology, I read the Senior Photographer job posting on photohr.com keenly. My qualifications and experience blend perfectly with what Photo Labs Int is seeking in the new position, especially my role as the Chief Photographer at Caxton Digital Ltd.

I have been able to cover weddings, celebrity parties and red carpet engagements, specialized artistic photography, food photography, fashion photography among others in various cities around the world. In my previous job at Caxton Digital Ltd, I covered 50% of the entire special events section alone. I am also adept at photoshoot management, post-processing of images, customer consultations and photo editing. My extensive experience on the job has perfected my skillset, including communication skills.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Digital Art and Photography from Walton College and have a passion for weddings, nature, fashion, special events and demanding photography. Photo Labs Int's focus on fashion, nature, food, special events, and wedding photography is a delight and welcome the opportunity to join your photography team to boost your profits considerably.

I am always eager to learn new photography techniques and tools and work well individually and as a team. Do contact me via phone or email to schedule an in-person meeting to discuss your needs and the position.

Sincerely,
Jackson Futon

Tips for Writing Photography Cover Letter

  • Always send a photography cover letter. Even if your resume writing skills are exceptional, never submit your application without a cover letter unless you're reminded not to.
  • Address an individual. Avoid addressing 'hiring manager', 'HR', or 'recruiter', but personalize the letter by finding the name behind the title. Research on the company's website or give the company a call and confirm. Generic salutations such as 'to whom it may concern' or 'dear sir' should also be avoided. Again, find out the name behind the title.
  • Grab attention right away. Remember the introductory paragraph in the cover letter photography draft is your chance to hook in the screener. Craft a punchy, sweet and brief paragraph.
  • Avoid the temptation to send one letter to all employers. You might be applying for a photography job from different companies. Whatever you do, tailor each cover letter for photography to meet the requirements of every job. Job titles might be the same but the requirements and descriptions different.
  • Avoid clichés that don't add value. Don't waste lots of precious time and space writing common clichés such as “attached please find my CV”. The hiring manager can actually see the resume is already attached and you don't have to remind them. It's actually expected to be attached. Save the space for something else.
  • Write tight. Stick to the journalism principle of writing tight by eliminating every unnecessary word and using simple sentence structure, simple constructions, and words. The hiring manager might not be from your industry and big words might not move them.
  • Use photography cover letter samples. Getting the structure right, including information in specific sections such as contact and body of the letter is important. A photography cover letter example can really help you get things right.
  • Avoid rehashing resumes. You've already enclosed your resume and you don't have to duplicate everything from it on photography cover letters. Use the letter to indicate other aspects not highly evident in your resume but related to the job opening.
  • Avoid common mistakes. Never submit your photographer cover letter without first rereading or asking a person to look at it with fresh eyes. Ensure there're no incorrect punctuations, improper grammar, misspelling, typos and wrong titles and names. Always reread, rectify and verify before submission.
