Apple has already released the second beta of iOS 11 for developers. The new beta brought a number of bug fixes and feature tweaks. But most importantly, there are a number of design changes. Simply put, the new iOS 11 will look much different than previous operating systems. In total, there are more than 20 changes to the new operating system by Apple. However, at this point, we will focus more on the Control Center and Lock Screen, two of the areas iOS made biggest improvements.

What's New in the Control Center

First and foremost, Apple brings customization to the Control Center. That is something we usually see in an Android device, but Apple gave users a much more customizable Control Center than usual.

During the Apple Worldwide Developers conference, Apple showed the new single-page and revamped Control Center on the stage. The company did not mention that the CC is customizable. What exactly can you customize?

For starters, you can select what you see in the Control Center, and what you do not. You can adjust it in the Settings app. There is a big list of options you can include. Some of them are Low power mode, Wallet, Screen recording, Notes, and much more. All of these icons can now be added to the Control Center. You can even add Apple TV Remote controls to your CC. The only thing that cannot be changed is the layout.

Another new option that is available is to disable Control Center within apps. This prevents the CC from coming up when you swipe upwards. You can still access Control Center from your Home screen, just not from within an app.

The biggest improvement is that the Control Center is now a single page. And Apple has also added an Accessibility shortcut to the Control Center, making your phone that much more accessible.

What's New in the Lock Screen

There are two big changes to the design of the Lock Screen. The first one is that a blur animation appears every time you pull down from the top of the device to bring up your notification center or lock screen.

The second is the completely new look of the Lock Screen including bolder font for passcode numbers and lighter circles. To be fair, Apple introduced a bolder font for the entire operating system. There are bolder looks for many apps like Phone, FaceTime, and Contacts. Some apps have received subtle changes, some significant changes.

Speaking of the animation, we have to note that previous iOS systems had stock animation no matter what. Whenever you had an iPhone or iPad, the animation was same every time you unlock your device. Apple has changed this feature, and now the animation depends on the wallpaper you use.

Essentially, the new animation is a small change and a neat effect. Being that the brightest part of the wallpaper is always a starting point, the lightest area of the image will be revealed first. On the right wallpaper, this animation will look great. For example, an image of a sunset will be plain awesome.

The new change to the lock screen will not change the way you use your Apple device, but it will be a welcome change from the old and boring method.

With the new iOS 11 expected to receive several new beta tests, we can expect few more changes. Currently the operating system is in its second developers beta and first public beta. Some additional feature tweaks and changes are to be expected until Apple releases the public software this fall.
