Part 2How to Edit a PDF on a Mac

Below are a few short steps to help you edit PDF documents in macOS X High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan and Yosemite. Let's see how to edit PDF file on Mac with Wondershare PDFelement for Mac.

Step 1. Open PDF Files

Open your PDF file with Wondershare PDFelement for Mac is the first step. You can click on the "Open File" button on the Home window and select the PDF file you want to open, or you can click on the "File" tab on top of the screen and then select the "Open" selection. Drag and drop the PDF files to the Home window is also optional for opening PDF file.

Step 2. Edit PDF Text on Mac

After the file is opened in the program, you can click on the "Edit" tab in the top toolbar and you will enter into editing mode.

  • To move PDF text: just click on the text you want to move and drag the text block to other place on the page.
  • To modify PDF text: click on the text you want to modify, and insert, delete the text in editable text block as you like.
  • To add PDF text: choose "Add Text" from the toolbar, and click on the blank area on the page and type in the text to add.

Step 3. Edit Images in a PDF File on Mac

Similar to edit PDF text, click on the "Edit" tab on the top toolbar to make changes of the PDF images.

  • To insert images into a PDF file: click on the "Add Image" button on the toolbar, choose a local image from your Mac to insert into the file.
  • To move images within a PDF file: click on the image which you want to move, and then drag it to other place on the page.
  • To crop images: select an image in the file and then click "Crop" on the right menu bar. Drag the mouse to select a portion of the image to crop.

Step 4. Add Markups to PDF on Mac

When you need to annotate the PDF, the markup tools will be useful. Click on the "Comment" button on the menu bar. You'll then see all of the options on the below toolbar.

  • To highlight the PDF text: click on the "Highlight" icon, and then select the text content you want to highlight. You can change the highlight color on the right side menu.
  • To add sticky note: click on the "Sticky Note" button, and then click on the place where you want to place the sticky note.
  • To add other annotation element: you'll find other annatation tools on the menu bar, such as "Underline", "Pencil", "Shapes", "Stamp" and so on. Choose your desire one to add to the PDF document.

Step 5. Redact PDF Content on Mac

When you need to protect sensitive contents in the PDF file from being seen, you can use the redact function in this case. Click on the "Redact" button on the "Protect" tab. Then select the content you want to protect. You'll see a black block appear on tghe text. You can change the color of the redaction since black is the default color.

If you want a whole page to be radacted, select the "Pages" tab on the right side menu. When you're done setting, click on the "Apply Redactions" button. The contents you select will now be block and no see will be able to see them once you save the file. Remember there is no undo of redaction, so be careful when you redact PDF content.

Step 6. Edit PDF Content with a Word Processor in macOS X

Open your PDF file with Wondershare PDF Editor for Mac; Click "Convert" on the toolbar; Customize page range for conversion and whether to enable OCR function and click "Convert" button; Your PDF file will be converted to Word document in seconds, after conversion, you can edit PDF files in Word in Mac then.

Step 1. Edit PDF Text with Preview

Open PDF files in Preview, and then click on the "T" icon on the menu bar. A new text box with appear in the PDF. You can put text on the box to add PDF text to the file. You can also go to "Tools" and click on "Text Selection". There you can select the text and right click to copy them out.

Step 2. Add Annotation to PDF with Preview

You can also insert annotations to PDF file for your own use. Click the "Note" icon on the menu bar. Then click on the location within the PDF where a note must appear. Here you can insert comments in the text box for annatation. You can also drag your mouse to create the required annotation.

Shapes and signature are also available on Preview. Click on "Tools" and then select "Annotate". There you can see all of the annotation tools on the menu. Choose the one you needed to put in the PDF document.
